  Water Polo Referee Certification Courses  
      

The Water Polo Referee Certification Courses ensure the necessary knowledge and skills to become competent in Water Polo refereeing.  The courses aim to achieve the following objectives:

 

:  Enlarge the number of referees and enhance the quality of local referees

:  To have uniformity in interpretation and application of Water Polo rules, thus raising the quality of refereeing

:  The course is an instrument to develop and promote Water Polo

      
 
SSA WATER POLO - LEVEL ONE REFEREE CERTIFICATION COURSE 22 AUGUST 2009
Level ONE is an entry-level course for participants to gain knowledge and understand hand signals.  Upon completion of the course, participants are able to serve as table official or secretary during tournaments.
   
  Registration: $15 per person (attendees will receive a certificate of participation and handouts)
   
   
   
SSA WATER POLO - LEVEL TWO REFEREE CERTIFICATION COURSE
Level TWO is an advanced course where participants have to go through refereeing training.  Upon completion of the course, participants are able to serve as referees in domestic tournaments.
 
      
SINGAPORE WATER POLO COACHING CLINIC 27 -28 MARCH 2009
A coaching clinic will be conducted by Mr. Attila Petovary.  He has previously coached in Australia (SASI), Japan, Canada and is now coaching in Kuwait.  It will be held at:
     
        301 Lorong 6 Toa Payoh  
        Singapore Swimming Association  
        Sports for Life Centre, Level 2 Conference Room  
     
        Registration: $10 per person (attendees will receive a certificate of participation and handouts)

 Water Polo Level ONE Referee Certification Course

Overview

Level ONE is an entry-level course for participants to gain knowledge and understand hand signals.  It is a 7-hour clinic that will be followed by a theory examination and practical evaluation.

Course Outline

Participants who have attended the Level ONE Certification will be equipped with the following Water Polo refereeing knowledge and skills: 

:  History of Water Polo

:  Organisation of International and Asia swimming governing bodies

:  Evolution and development of Water Polo rules from late 19th century

:  Brief outline of current FINA Water Polo rules

:  The duties of the Timekeepers, Secretaries and Goal Judges

:  Roles and responsibilities of the Water Polo referees

:  Types of fouls in Water Polo

Fees

The course is currently conducted free.

1/2006: 22 & 23 September 2006 (Registration closed)

2/2007: 9, 12 & 19 May 2007 (Registration open)

All practical lessons are held at Toa Payoh Swimming Complex unless stated otherwise.  All theory lessons are held at SSA's Conference Room.

Pre-Course Requirements

Participants are to familiarise with the current FINA Water Polo Rules before the commencement of the course.  The rules are obtainable here.

Qualification for Level ONE Referee

The participant will be considered a qualified SSA Water Polo Level ONE Referee upon fulfilling all of the following requirements:

:  Achieved 100% attendance at the clinics

:  A score of at least 75% for the theory examination

:  An 'above average' rating or the practical evaluation

 Target Participants

SSA's Water Polo Level ONE Referee Certification Course is targeted at the following:

: Teachers / Club Managers already involved in Water Polo activities

: Water Polo players, table officials and secretaries with little officiating experience

: Individuals who are interested to become SSA Water Polo referees

 Application

The course capacity is 20 participants.  To register, applicants are to complete the Application Form (obtainable from SSA).  Successful applicants will be notified by email prior to the course.

 Water Polo Level TWO Referee Certification Course

Overview

Level TWO is an advanced course where participants have to go through refereeing training.  It is a 9-hour clinic that will be followed by a theory examination and practical evaluation.

Course Outline

Participants who have attended the Level TWO Certification will be equipped with the following Water Polo refereeing knowledge and skills: 

Organisation of a Water Polo Competition

:  General philosophy of the Water Polo game

:  Brief outline of FINA Water Polo rules

:  Signalling – whistling and hand signs

:  Application and understanding of the advantage rule

:  Specific minor foul situations – taking a free throw, wasting time, neutral throw, taking ball completely under water when tackled, impeding the free movement of opponent

:  Consistency in interpretation and application of major fouls

:  Misconduct during match. Brutality and violence. Issuing of yellow or red cards for offences

The course is currently conducted free.

1/2006: 28 October 2006 (Saturday) at 9:30 a.m.;
1 November 2006 (Wednesday) at 7:00 p.m.; and
3 November 2006 (Friday) at 7:00 p.m.
