A
series of overseas competitions, interspersed
through the SSA Swimming Calendar, will allow
the Singapore National Squad additional practice racing opportunity for competitive exposure, experience,
fine tuning et al. These meets are dependent on availability
and are focused on gearing-up the National Squad
toward Target Meets for the year. The SSA Swimming
Committee, assisted by its Coaching Sub-Committee,
shall recommend the teams, based on its analysis
of Singapore Swimming’s developmental needs. SSA
Executive Committee approves the final composition of these
teams. Unlike Target Meets, where a pre-determined
selection criteria would be used, Preparatory
Meets would be by invitation and are guided by
the following considerations:

: Purpose of meet vis-à-vis SSA’s
strategic targets, e.g. For National Squad,
swim-through meets
: Team – strength, depth and needs
: Financial considerations
Swimmers’
Attributes
: Minimum eligibility criteria stipulated by meet
organisers, if any
: Membership in National Squad

International Point Score (IPS) standing and
history within the six-month window prior to date
of competition
: High Performance Status – training phase/cycle,
consistency, etc.
: Availability, willingness, and commitment to
prepare, compete and represent Singapore
: Developmental potential of swimmers –
psychology, maturity, age, attitude, etc.
